Amulet Books, an imprint of ABRAMS, has issued a press release with some new information about Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5. The fifth book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series will go on sale Tuesday, November 9, 2010. We know that the cover will be purple, but we will not actually see it or the title of the book until July.
One little hint that we got about the book came from the author himself. “I feel like everything in the series has been leading up to the fifth book, which is about change and the different ways Greg and his best friend, Rowley, deal with it,” said Jeff Kinney. “To me, this book is the linchpin in the series, and I’m excited to be writing it.”
If you happen to be at BookExpo in New York City May 26-27, you’ll see a banner in the hallway for the book as well as giveaways of water bottles and bookmarks. Even more exciting, Jeff Kinney will be signing books at 11am on May 27.
We’ll be posting information as we get it. One thing we know for sure is “This Fall…Everything Changes.”
Based on the success of the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, Fox 2000 announced that the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules will be put into production this summer. The movie will be based on the second book in the Jeff Kinney series and is set to be released March 25, 2011.
We’ll post more information as we get it.

We’ve been getting a lot of emails from people asking “Where can I buy the Diary of a Wimpy Kid game?” The good news is that the game is now available!
The game is called the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Cheese Touch Game” and involves players moving around a board–obviously avoiding the cheese!
You can get it in a number of places but they do sell out from time to time. We’ll list them here as we find them. In addition, there are a couple of other Diary of a Wimpy Kid games that you might want to check out including Diary of a Wimpy Kid UNO, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Scrabble, and various puzzles.
Amazon (currently $19.99) (and they have the other games)
Walmart ($19.99)
The first trailer of the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie has been released. I have to admit that a lot of the characters are not as I pictured them (or as they were illustrated in the book). The movie is based on the first book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. The movie is set to be released April 2, 2010, and stars Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Steve Zahn, Rachel Harris, and Chloe Moretz. You can order a copy of the “Wimpy Kid Movie Diary” from Amazon.
What do you think of the trailer?

In anticipation of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie coming in April, a new Wimpy Kid book is being released. This one is actually a “diary” of the making of the Wimpy Kid Movie. It’s hardcover and over 200 pages.
The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary will take you through the process of turning a hit book series into a movie. The book will contain “photographs, script pages, storyboard sketches, costume designs, and original art by Jeff Kinney.”
Pre-order the Wimpy Kid Movie Diary from Amazon now for a March 16 release. It’s eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping.

For a limited time, you can get all of the first four Diary of a Wimpy Kid books at Barnes & Noble for less than $40 total. In fact, if you are a member (or if you log in today, when they are having their “everyone gets member prices” deal), you will get them all for $30.88 plus free shipping.
The set includes hardcover editions of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid #2: Rodrick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy Kid #3: The Last Straw, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid #4: Dog Days.

Although there isn’t much Diary of a Wimpy Kid merchandise out there yet, one interesting item on the shelves now is the first “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Parody. “Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid (Tales from the Crypt #8)” is a parody of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” “Twilight,” and Guitar Hero published by Papercutz. It’s a series of 4 stories written as a graphic novel. The target age range is 9-12 years old and the stories are supposed to be a little bit scary. Reviews of the novel have been very good but so far are primarily from people who enjoy the Tales from the Crypt series in general.
From what I can tell, the hardcover version is now on backorder. However, you should be able to find the paperback more easily available (and cheaper!). Here are some current prices:
Borders: paperback $7.95, hardcover $12.95
Amazon: paperback $7.95, hardcover $9.32
TFAW.com: paperback $6.36
