The first trailer of the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie has been released. I have to admit that a lot of the characters are not as I pictured them (or as they were illustrated in the book). The movie is based on the first book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. The movie is set to be released April 2, 2010, and stars Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Steve Zahn, Rachel Harris, and Chloe Moretz. You can order a copy of the “Wimpy Kid Movie Diary” from Amazon.
What do you think of the trailer?

In anticipation of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie coming in April, a new Wimpy Kid book is being released. This one is actually a “diary” of the making of the Wimpy Kid Movie. It’s hardcover and over 200 pages.
The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary will take you through the process of turning a hit book series into a movie. The book will contain “photographs, script pages, storyboard sketches, costume designs, and original art by Jeff Kinney.”
Pre-order the Wimpy Kid Movie Diary from Amazon now for a March 16 release. It’s eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping.

For a limited time, you can get all of the first four Diary of a Wimpy Kid books at Barnes & Noble for less than $40 total. In fact, if you are a member (or if you log in today, when they are having their “everyone gets member prices” deal), you will get them all for $30.88 plus free shipping.
The set includes hardcover editions of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid #2: Rodrick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy Kid #3: The Last Straw, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid #4: Dog Days.

Although there isn’t much Diary of a Wimpy Kid merchandise out there yet, one interesting item on the shelves now is the first “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Parody. “Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid (Tales from the Crypt #8)” is a parody of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” “Twilight,” and Guitar Hero published by Papercutz. It’s a series of 4 stories written as a graphic novel. The target age range is 9-12 years old and the stories are supposed to be a little bit scary. Reviews of the novel have been very good but so far are primarily from people who enjoy the Tales from the Crypt series in general.
From what I can tell, the hardcover version is now on backorder. However, you should be able to find the paperback more easily available (and cheaper!). Here are some current prices:
Borders: paperback $7.95, hardcover $12.95
Amazon: paperback $7.95, hardcover $9.32
TFAW.com: paperback $6.36

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days is about to ship! We found a really cool video below from Youtube that shows how the books were actually produced. If you have any Wimpy Kid fans in your house, it’s worth watching. The video is called “Diary of a WImpy Kid: Dog Days – On Press Sneak Preview”
You can still order your copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days from Amazon and be among the first to have it.

We’ve been checking all of the online bookstores for the best deal on Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days. So far, the best deal that we have found is from Amazon. They are charging $7.67 if you preorder it. If you are ordering other books, it is eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping if you order $25 or more.
The other option would be to pre-order it from Borders. It’s $10.46 but you can have it shipped to your local store and not have to pay any shipping charges.
My daughter has already been saving up a dollar at a time to put away enough to get her copy. She just got Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3 from Scholastic last month and is now caught up on the series. I have a feeling that this book is going to be hard to get if we don’t pre-order it!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days is due to be released October 12.
I just came across a pretty cool Diary of a Wimpy Kid contest on the Scholastic Club website. If you are in 4th-6th grade, you can submit a one page “diary entry” of the funniest thing that happened to you at school. The grand prize winner will get a personal letter from Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. 10 winners will receive a signed copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4.
Click here for the full contest information. Entries must be received by October 23, 2009.
It’s official! The 4th Diary of a Wimpy Kid series book name and cover have been released. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” will be released on October 12, 2009. Here’s a shot of the cover:

The description from Barnes & Noble says that the book is about summer vacation and Greg’s view of summer vacation (playing video games) versus that of his mom (outdoors and “family togetherness”).
You can pre-order Dog Days from a number of places to save on the cover price. Here’s a direct link to the page on Barnes & Noble.
While we anxiously await the next Diary of a Wimpy Kid book and the arrival of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, here’s an interview with Jeff Kinney, the author of the books. The interview was done after the first two books were released. In the interview, Kinney talks about how he and the fans like the books equally. In addition, Kinney answers the question of why these books appeal to boys more than most other books made for the 10-13 age range.
One of the things that Kinney talks about a lot is the impact of Diary of a Wimpy Kid on “reluctant readers,” or kids who would otherwise not want to read for fun. We hear that frequently when people talk about the Wimpy Kid series.
Kinney also talks about the possibility someday of a “Wimpy World,” or a place that kids can interact online within the Wimpy Kid Series. Kinney wants to “keep [his] options open” about the spread of Wimpy Kid into different media.
Check out the video and tell us what you think. Is Kinney what you expected?
