Amulet Books has announced a cool new reading campaign that goes along with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book franchise. The campaign will run from now through November 5, 2013, (the release date of the 8th Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book).
The first phase of the campaign will feature cars that are wrapped to resemble the first 7 books in the series. It will include car window clings as well as other social media. The cars will be driving across 7 regions of the country, and each car will have not only the color of the book but also reminders of the applicable book.
The second part of the campaign will be launched during Book Expo America in New York from May 29 to June 1.
To participate in the campaigns, you can do a couple of different things. One is to be on the lookout for the window clings and character cutout kits at your local stores and libraries. Another is to follow the #READWIMPY hash tag on Twitter and participate by tweeting photos when you spot one of the wrapped vehicles. (You can already see some fun tweets online)
It’s pretty clear that Wimpy Kid is ramping up for a huge release for the next book. Will you be a part of it?

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7
Great news for Diary of a Wimpy Kid fans! Abram’s Amulet Books has announced that author Jeff Kinney will be publishing another Wimpy Kid Book, the 7th in the series. The book is not yet titled (and actually has not even all been written) but the image released has the tagline “Love Is In the Air.” We do know that the book will be about a school dance and a love interest for Greg or Rowley (or both!).
The 7th Wimpy Kid book will be released in the United States on November 13, 2012.
As if the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid “The Ugly Truth” were not exciting enough, we have now gotten word about a new Diary of a Wimpy Kid tour. The book goes on sale November 9, and the tour will start that day in Austin, Texas. The tour will then head to Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, and Birmingham that same week. Bookstores will be giving away up to 2000 tickets for fans to see Jeff Kinney speak. Other events planned include a Cheese Touch board game and a dunk tank.

With the impending release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5: The Ugly Truth, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Ice Cream Truck will again be touring the country. Last year one truck visited 40 locations, and this year two trucks will visit even more (52 total).
The tour will begin on August 15 and end August 28 with stops from Florida to the Midwest to Canada. Although Jeff Kinney will not be present at the stops, it will still be a pretty awesome opportunity. The truck will be giving out purple treats at each location and Abrams will donate a children’s book to nonprofit organization First Book for each treat distributed. You get ice cream and someone in need gets a book! I’m particularly excited because one of the stops is only 10 minutes from where I live.
You can get the full details from Publishers Weekly and even see an agenda of where the Wimpy Kid Truck will be and on what days.
It’s official! The fifth installment of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is going to be titled “The Ugly Truth.” We do not yet know much about the plot except the tagline that we keep seeing–“This Fall…Everything Changes.” We also previously reported a bit of a teaser from the author: “I feel like everything in the series has been leading up to the fifth book, which is about change and the different ways Greg and his best friend, Rowley, deal with it,” said Jeff Kinney. “To me, this book is the linchpin in the series, and I’m excited to be writing it.”
You can pre-order diary of a Wimpy Kid 5 now, and it will be released on November 9.
Amulet Books, an imprint of ABRAMS, has issued a press release with some new information about Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5. The fifth book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series will go on sale Tuesday, November 9, 2010. We know that the cover will be purple, but we will not actually see it or the title of the book until July.
One little hint that we got about the book came from the author himself. “I feel like everything in the series has been leading up to the fifth book, which is about change and the different ways Greg and his best friend, Rowley, deal with it,” said Jeff Kinney. “To me, this book is the linchpin in the series, and I’m excited to be writing it.”
If you happen to be at BookExpo in New York City May 26-27, you’ll see a banner in the hallway for the book as well as giveaways of water bottles and bookmarks. Even more exciting, Jeff Kinney will be signing books at 11am on May 27.
We’ll be posting information as we get it. One thing we know for sure is “This Fall…Everything Changes.”
Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days is about to ship! We found a really cool video below from Youtube that shows how the books were actually produced. If you have any Wimpy Kid fans in your house, it’s worth watching. The video is called “Diary of a WImpy Kid: Dog Days – On Press Sneak Preview”
You can still order your copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: Dog Days from Amazon and be among the first to have it.
I just came across a pretty cool Diary of a Wimpy Kid contest on the Scholastic Club website. If you are in 4th-6th grade, you can submit a one page “diary entry” of the funniest thing that happened to you at school. The grand prize winner will get a personal letter from Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. 10 winners will receive a signed copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4.
Click here for the full contest information. Entries must be received by October 23, 2009.
It’s official! The 4th Diary of a Wimpy Kid series book name and cover have been released. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” will be released on October 12, 2009. Here’s a shot of the cover:
The description from Barnes & Noble says that the book is about summer vacation and Greg’s view of summer vacation (playing video games) versus that of his mom (outdoors and “family togetherness”).
You can pre-order Dog Days from a number of places to save on the cover price. Here’s a direct link to the page on Barnes & Noble.
Do you know someone who looks and acts like Greg Heffley, the main character in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series? If so, he should audition for the movie! 20th Century Fox is currently casting for the lead role in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie. They are seeking an actor aged 10 to 13 who they describe as “slight and skinny, physically unprepossessing, not overly cute or precious, with a quirky, memorable face.”
If your kid fits the bill, head to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid casting site. Just for fun, you can also check out current submissions on their site.
