While we anxiously await the next Diary of a Wimpy Kid book and the arrival of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, here’s an interview with Jeff Kinney, the author of the books. The interview was done after the first two books were released. In the interview, Kinney talks about how he and the fans like the books equally. In addition, Kinney answers the question of why these books appeal to boys more than most other books made for the 10-13 age range.

One of the things that Kinney talks about a lot is the impact of Diary of a Wimpy Kid on “reluctant readers,” or kids who would otherwise not want to read for fun. We hear that frequently when people talk about the Wimpy Kid series.

Kinney also talks about the possibility someday of a “Wimpy World,” or a place that kids can interact online within the Wimpy Kid Series. Kinney wants to “keep [his] options open” about the spread of Wimpy Kid into different media.

Check out the video and tell us what you think. Is Kinney what you expected?

Do you know someone who looks and acts like Greg Heffley, the main character in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series? If so, he should audition for the movie! 20th Century Fox is currently casting for the lead role in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie.  They are seeking an actor aged 10 to 13 who they describe as “slight and skinny, physically unprepossessing, not overly cute or precious, with a quirky, memorable face.”

If your kid fits the bill, head to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid casting site. Just for fun, you can also check out current submissions on their site.

As the parents of kids in the 6-14 range, we are always reading kids’ books. Whether it’s Harry Potter to make sure that it is “age appropriate” or the zillionth reading of a Dr. Seuss favorite, we are always reading the books that our kids read. After both of us heard about our kids and their friends all reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, we decided to read it, too. What we found was a fun book that was easy to read that both kids and parents would get something out of. It may not be classical literature, but it’s a good way to get your kids to show an interest in reading.

What we discovered as we researched the book, however, was that there was very little information on the web about where to buy Wimpy Kid stuff. So we decided to start our own site! Bookmark us and check back as we update you on Diary of a Wimpy Kid news, merchandise, and more.
